JANE RUSHBY

Marci Katz's room

My Room

I'm standing, looking down the length of my old 40"x30" pine dinner table. I use a small kitschy velour cobalt blue rug as a table runner; the scene on the rug is the US White House with an eagle flying above and portraits of the Kennedy brothers flanking it (Jack's in the foreground). Atop the table is a Channuka present from my sculptor partner - made from papier mache, about a foot tall, of a Hassidic Jew holding a driedel and a pennant saying "Happy Channuka".

Partly visible to the left side and far end of the table are 2 narrow tall-backed chairs, brown velvet with tubular steel curved arms, with throw cushions. The wall behind this scene is about 16 ft from me, almost all window, panes separated by cedar beams, partly covered by blinds of thin wicker. A cedar shelf along the window displays a few candlestick holders and cobalt blue bottles. To its left is my woodstove, enclosed in brown mesh grate with an old cast iron kettle on top. Above the stove is a grouping of small framed digital prints. Further right along the window wall is an old standing lamp with a beige fabric shade. On its right is a small low dark china cabinet with leaded windows, with lacy fern and very phallic looking cactus on top of it. It's a dull rainy day; view out of the windows is vague, green and bushy.

Any visible wall and carpet is beige, with the corner of a red Turkish type area rug visible in the lower right corner.
