OLIVER KELLHAMMER

Terri Storey's room

The ceiling is low.

To my right, a dining room table serves as a kitchen counter. Stores of food, pots and dishes fill the table. An adolescent chicken, black, red and green walks across the table. Behind, is a sink and counter barely visible under a sea of dishes. To the left of this is a large window. A young girl can be seen from behind, long blond hair and pink dress, kneeling on a wooden bench. She is looking at the chickens outside. There are pots hanging from the ceiling near the stove beside her. There is a table covered with folded and stacked fabric and under the table are large transparent bags, filled with coloured material. On the back wall, a keyboard sits in front of a bookshelf filled with books. A set of hand drums sit next to a wood stove is illuminated by fire and surrounded by hanging towels and blankets.

Herbs in small bags are fastened by clothes pins to a rope crossing the room, nailed to a ceiling beam. A lone light bulb hangs from its cord. In the centre of the room, another rope is a swing that looks like a noose hanging through a hole in the ceiling. Under this is a screen door sitting flat on two chairs and is being used to dry freshly made paper.

To my left is a table with paint, brushes and various painting materials, behind which, hang several loose hung canvas brightly coloured with a variety of patterns. To the right of the table, are two other tables in an L-shape, one with a sewing machine and the other covered with more erratic folded fabric. A blue plastic bin sits next to this and is filled with socks that a grey cat sleeps on.
